The Matera Conservatory offers an undergraduate and graduate level program in conducting. Passing through an entrance examination, and after being admitted, students have a valuable opportunity to immerse deeply into all aspects – theoretical, musical, technical and philosophical – inherent in the craft of orchestral conducting and, what is most important, they practice constantly with their instrument: The Orchestra.
Our music professors and the most skilful and talented students of the conservatory constitute our orchestra. At the end of the academic year we have a concert series where the conducting students perform the studied repertoire in public.
We have an Opera Lab where we devote ourselves to the study of operatic repertoire. Students work on the score at the piano with singers and chorus prior to pass to orchestra and stage rehearsals where they, obviously, are the Maestro Concertatore and Conductor.
